Foundation for Blind Children, founded in 1952, has become a national model for agencies serving the blind. The Mission of FBC is to create opportunity for anyone with vision loss to achieve. We provide a comprehensive system of services which optimizes the blind or visually impaired child’s development and which provides many opportunities to lead a meaningful and productive life – starting with infancy, through preschool, elementary and secondary education throughout college and adulthood. Our goal is to help these individuals achieve success in life, school and career.
Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter is the 501( c) (3) nonprofit fundraising partner of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter founded in 2006. Friends was founded to supplement the animal care budget that the Fairfax County Animal Shelter receives from the County of Fairfax. Friends funds medical and dental care, parasite prevention, spay and neuter for community cats, as well as collars, tags and leashes for adopted pets. Friends also funds senior medical wellness exams, hospice care and animal enrichment items for pets that are awaiting their new loving families at either the Shelter or in foster care. Friends joins in the Shelter’s effort to ensure that every pet is offered the best opportunity to leave the shelter healthier and happier.
The mission of Goodwill Industries of Akron is to help individuals prepare for, find and retain employment. Services are in response to identified community needs and are designed to help individuals reach their highest possible vocational and personal potential. Operating in the five-county region of Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland, the Akron-based agency was established in 1927. It is a private, independent organization, operating as an affiliate member of Goodwill Industries International, and a United Way agency in Summit and Medina Counties. Goodwill helps to directly strengthen the region’s workforce through its employment programs and indirectly through the net proceeds from its retail outlets and industrial services division. Goodwill Industries of Akron is governed by a local Board of Directors representative of its service territory.
